South Orange Performing Arts Center
Challenge
Rebrand as an entertainment venue first
The South Orange Performing Arts Center was overdue for a brand and website refresh. It placed too much emphasis on being a non-profit arts organization and lost sight of its role as a live entertainment venue and an active member of the community.
Strategy
Focus on the performing artists
From the beginning, I positioned SOPAC as more than a performing arts center. Live entertainment became the heart of the brand, while partnerships with local businesses connected SOPAC to the larger South Orange community—turning a night at the theater into a night out in South Orange.
Live entertainment takes center stage, supported by clear paths to SOPAC’s programs, services, community initiatives, and ways to get involved.
The site also connected SOPAC with local businesses, such as restaurants, coffee shops, and stores, making SOPAC a magnet for potential customers.
Execution
Turning the Strategy Into an Experience
The redesigned website put live entertainment front and center, while making every step—from discovering an artist to buying a ticket—simpler and more engaging. Individual performer pages combined photography, video, audio, and event information, giving artists more visibility while strengthening SOPAC’s search presence.
We also streamlined the ticket-buying experience, creating a clearer path from discovering a performance to purchasing a seat.
Giving every performer their own stage
Making it easier to go from interested to attending.
Outcome
From Local Venue to Cultural Destination
The rebranding helped reposition SOPAC from a local performing arts venue into one of New Jersey’s premier cultural destinations. The transformation delivered results beyond a stronger brand: increased revenue and donations, reduced costs, and greater visibility throughout the region.
SOPAC was voted a Discover Jersey Arts People’s Choice Award winner for five consecutive years.
